FINANCIAL AID
We are aware that some students may experience financial challenges in attempting to meet tuition payment. We assist students as much as possible in achieving their educational goals, but we are a non-profit institution and we currently do not receive any grants or institutional support. Potential students seeking financial aid are encouraged to seek support from family members, independent grant institutions, and other sources.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year we offer one full scholarship per program to an outstanding student from a developing country. Our scholarship students are chosen from a large pool of applicants that demonstrate financial need as well as exceptional achievement and potential in the areas of somatics, improvisation, or performance. Please note that this is a highly competitive scholarship and it typically goes to an applicant that has been on the waiting list for at least one year.
To apply for the scholarship, please send the following:
* A formal letter of interest describing your achievements, future plans, reasons for wanting to attend MOC, and an overview of what you have to offer the MOC community.
* A current resume.
* Two letters of recommendation from former teachers in the fields of somatics, improvisation, or performance.
* A complete Moving On Center Application.
The deadline for 2008 applications is May 1, 2008. Please mail all application materials to:
Moving On Center 1428 Alice St. Oakland, CA 94611 USA
WORK EXCHANGE
West Coast Certification Programs: We offer one full tuition work exchange position per module. Upon acceptance to the program, speak with the Director for further details.
West Coast Intensives and Workshops: We also offer a couple of work exchange
positions for students planning on attending intensives or multiple individual
workshops. We will give preference to those who will attend intensives as we
would prefer longer term work commitments. These positions typically go to
students who have solid computer and administrative skills.
Work Study For people who can provide basic administrative support : data entry, desk top publishing, general office work. 5 to 10 hours per week, tuition exchange equal to $15 per hour. Work studies need to do a minimum of 40 hours of work.
Work Scholar If you have administrative work experience, you could qualify to earn $20 per hour in tuition exchange as a Work Scholar. Duties include office management, project assistance, and event scheduling. Minimum of 100 hours of work exchange, 5 to 10 hours per week.
East Coast SMTT Certification Program: A $200 award is available for the SMTT certification during the Spring Intensive. Larger work exchange programs are available for students able to work in New York City before and after the intensive. Work exchange amounts are deducted directly from the student's tuition payment(s).
STUDENT LOAN PROGRAMS
Moving On Center offers a low-interest loan program in association with the Sunrise Credit Union. These are alternative loans and they require a good credit history and a personal interview with our Director.
[Note: These loans are not available for the 2007 Certification Program, but may become available again in 2008. Please check with MOC for details.]
Sallie Mae's Career Training Loans are also available for the CMT-SE module only through our relationship with the
Alive & Well School of Massage. The loan can cover full tuition and up to 60% of additional expenses. The application process is easy and approval rates are high (70%). Monthly payments begin at $15/month with no penalty for paying the loan off early. Contact our office or visit www.salliemae.com for more information.
Our research has so far discovered limited funding resources in this area of study. We recommend that you conduct your own research into possible grants from organizations that appear to have potential of support.
